9. Betsey Johnson

Feminine, whimsical, humurous, witty, whimsy, avant garde, enthusiastic

She is an American fashion designer born in 1942. Her career started when she won the Mademoiselle Guest Editor Contest. Within a year, she was the in-house designer for Manhattan boutique Paraphernalia. In the 1970s Betsey managed the fashion label "Alley Cat". She represented an edgy, offbeat style during the new wave/punk era of the late 1970s. In 1972 she won the Coty Award.

In 1978 she started her own fashion line. The National Arts Club awarded Johnson the 2009 Medal of Honor for Lifetime Achievement in Fashion. She has more than 65 stores worldwide selling dresses, shoes, handbags, accessories.
