14. Christian Dior

Legendary, 'diorable' style, French couturier, the talent of an actor, best known for his eponymous fashion house Dior, full skirt, cinched waist, fuller bust, his designs have been worn by prominent clients from Hollywood, the United States, and the European aristocracy

He was born in France in 1905. During the World War II he worked as a design assistant for Robert Piguet and Lucien Lelong. He founded his Dior house in 1946 in Paris, backed by Marcel Boussac, a cotton-fabric magnate. He showed his first collection in 1947, presenting the 90 different looks called the "New Look". He founded the first luxury ready-to-wear house of the globe in New York in 1948. He also launched Dior Parfums (Miss Dior, Diorama). In 1949, Dior was the first couturier to arrange licensed production of his designs to a range of luxury accessories. In 1955, the young Yves Saint Laurent became Dior's design assistant. Dior died at the age of 52.
