One of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century; revolutionized women's fashion with feminine but easy-fitting designs, shaped the modern woman's simple elegance.

French fashion designer born in 1883. Chanel was raised in an orphanage and taught to sew. Around the age of 20 her wealthy lovers helped her to set up her fashion business in Paris, starting with selling hats.
In the 1920s, she launched her first perfume, Chanel No. 5., introduced the legendary little black dress and Chanel suit with collarless jacket, gold buttons and well-fitted skirt. Her designs were revolutionary for the time, borrowing elements of men’s wear and emphasizing comfort. Chanel was a popular figure in Parisian literary and artistic worlds both in US and Europe.
After her death, designer Karl Lagerfeld took the lead on the Chanel legacy. Today her namesake company is held by the Wertheimer family and continues to thrive.
