24. Dries van Noten

Eccentric style, mixing art with fashion by using contrasting prints, bold colors, unusual fabric. He merges traditional with more contemporary themes to create something entirely new.

He is a Belgian fashion designer who was born into a three-generations-old family of tailors in Antwerp in 1958. Dries studied fashion at the Royal Academy of his hometown and in parallel worked as a freelance designer. After school he and Christine Mathys co-founded his self financed eponymous brand and opened a shop in 1989, selling both men's and women's clothing. Today he has stores in Antwerp, Hong Kong, Kuwait, Paris, Singapore and Tokyo. His collections are far from conventional.

In 2008, he received the International Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America and in 2009, he was awarded the Gold Medal from the Flemish Royal Academy of Belgium.
