Structured, modern design, clean lines, elastic and sculptural, playing with visual effects, transforming 2D to 3D

Miyake was born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1938. After graduating with a degree in graphic design he worked in Paris and New York. Upon returning to his native country he founded his own company in 1970 focusing on women's fashion. He pioneered new methods of pleating and the use of ceramic buttons. Since 1997 he has been focusing most of his attention on research, thus handing over the designing of collections of associate Naoki Takizawa. Since Naoki opened his own company, Issey oversees the direction of his own lines, but they are designed by his staff. His brand includes various men's and women's collections, watches and fragrances. His current lead designer is Yoshiyuki Miyamae.
