Natural and comfortable wear. World's second best selling perfume Joy
Patou was born in Normandy, France in 1880. He was working in the family business of fur and tanning, and in 1912 he opened his own tailor salon. His work was interrupted by World War I, in which he was mobilized. His shop reopened after the war and he was credited by inventing the tennis skirt, knitted swimwear, the designer tie, and suntan lotion. His aim was for fashion to be natural and comfortable to wear. In 1925 he also launched a perfume line, through which his company managed to survive the economic hardships of the Great Depression and the following war. Having died in 1936 the company remained in the hands of his family. While his the haute couture wing of his company closed after Christian Lacroix left to launch his own label; his fragrance business is very much alive today. However, the business is no longer family run: it is currently owned by Designer Parfums Ltd.
