Famous for whimsical, outrageous designs, haute couture genius

Galliano was born in Gibraltar in 1960. The family later moved to the UK where little John had trouble fitting in. He graduated from Saint Martin's School of Art in 1984 and his first collection was well received. He then started his own label, but soon went bankrupt. He moved to Paris in 1990 in search for financial backing where he found the help needed to keep producing collections. In 1995 he became the first British designer to head a French haute couture house - Givenchy. Since this brand is owned but the LVMH conglomerate, he was moved to Dior in 1996. In 2011 the fashion house suspended Galliano over a videotaped anti-Semitic rant in a Paris bar. His comeback was for Oscar de la Renta in 2013 and he seemed to have revived his career and was forgiven by the general public. Since 2014 he has been working as the creative director for fashion house Maison Margiela.
