French fashion house where hand made trunks and leather goods crafted since 1854

Louis Vuitton Malletier is a French fashion house founded by Louis Vuitton. It was in 1837 that a 16-year-old Louis Vuitton arrived in Paris by foot and started apprenticing for Monsieur Maréchal. He stayed for 17 years before opening his own workshop. He was the first to develop flat trunks covered by waterproof canvas. For its 100TH anniversary the brand asked six designers to create original pieces to celebrate the iconic canvas: the Monogram. The label's LV monogram appears on most of its products, ranging from luxury trunks and leather goods to ready-to-wear, shoes, watches, jewellery, accessories, sunglasses and books. Louis Vuitton has had many collaborations with prominent designers over the years.

Marc Jacobs is responsible for having introduced Vuitton's ready-to-wear line, turning the brand into a global powerhouse during his 16-year long tenure. He also launched the first of the fashion house's art collaborations, working with artists such as Stephen Sprouse (who created the brand's popular graffiti bags), Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama. Here FashionTV tells the story of Marc Jacobs.
Nicolas Ghesquière took over in 2013 as the creative director. Here he envisions a "future archaeology" for the Autumn-Winter 2016 Women’s Fashion Show scenography.
