Known for her bias cut and a sensual approach to couture

Madeleine Vionnet was born in Chilleurs-aux-Bois in 1876. She started to work as an apprentice seamstress in 1888. She worked as head master in The House of Callot Soeurs and then head of Jacques Doucet Maison de Couture. In 1912 she founded her own Parisian fashion house which was called “Vionnet” that sold ready-wear from haute couture in the USA. In the "Temple of Fashion"were a Salon de Présentation and two boutiques. Unfortunately it had to be closed in 1939. She created the “biased cut” which is what she is most well known for. In 2012 Goga Ashkenazi gained full control of the brand of which she heads both the creative and business sides of the Milan-based company.
